The pub at Cleggan harbour, west Co. Galway. The ferry to Inishboffin goes from here but when I was there it had already gone. A nice wee town, the plan was to stop for lunch and maybe get some fish ’n chips but the place was heaving so I took some photos and drove on.

Molloys Garage, Co. Galway Home for a few weeks, enjoying a welcome break from work. And getting a chance to do some photography, the kind I wouldn’t, or couldn’t, do bavk home.
I really must get another laptop, the fan on this one sounds like a 747 taking off in a headwind.
To the Japan Festival in Amstelveen yesterday. I would have loved to stay longer but it was so hot, and so busy. Last year it was 35c on the same day π₯΅ This is the best I came away with.
Some light reading for the holidays!
This is one of my favourite photographs. Taken by Robert Adams, it exemplifies his masterful black-and-white photography, which over the past forty years has chronicled the changing landscapes of the American West. His images, often sparse or entirely absent of people, nonetheless speak volumes β¦
Another one from my walk-about in Uilenstede. Very much enjoying the new Nikon Zf!
Alanis Morissette fairly rocking it out at Glastonbury. Think I’ll put on Jagged Little Pill later on - such a great album.
What’s the best way to find people to follow on micro.blog? I’m into photography, 80s and 90s culture (with a particular slant on UK culture as this is where I grew up), GenX, football (this Β»β½ variety). I’m really liking this place and want to make it my home π
Getting my Henry Wessel on πΈ
I’ve just realised why it’s taking so long to load the images I posted recently to my micro.blog - they’re all around 5mb in size bwahaha. Must check this in future, Lightroom creates enormous jpg’s.
I’ve had this idea for a project for some time now, a project about Amstelveen, the town in which I have lived since moving from Ireland
Some images from around Uilenstede, a neighborhood in Amstelveen.
I tried to watch the press conference from the Pentagon on last night’s illegal attacks on Iran but just couldn’t stick it beyond the first three minutes. The glorification of military might, of destruction, of war, of death from the skies, and the continued elevation into sainthood of β¦
Nature always finds a way: A few more images from my trip to NDSM last week. I love the way that despite all the construction work going on, nature still finds a way to blossom.
I bought a new camera: I bought a new camera last week, a Nikon Zf. After fifteen years of shooting with Fuji cameras I just fancied a change.
I can never understand why I still get new followers even though I haven’t posted anything on Instagram since April. Twelve this week alone. I mean, thanks and all that, but yeah. Don’t expect too much from me.
Just heard this one go by. Forgotten how good it is. Somewhere Only We Know Keane β§ 2004 www.youtube.com/watch
Well, discovered a site which streams two of my favourite films of all time, Diner, but also Paris, Texas. Can’t decide which one to watch first π€
I’m embarrassed by all the games I’ve ever bought on Steam and now never play. I reckon with the amount spent i could have bought a second-hand Leica. My currently most played games: Victoria 3, EU4, Grim Dawn, and, ehm, Farming Simulator 17 … I’m 55.
Some images from our trip to Austria last year, that I’ve just gotten around to editing :-)
Looking forward to the weekend. Nothing special going on, it’s just not work π
Sometimes I wonder if I have any talent for photography at all. After yesterday’s walk around the marathon that was taking place in the town, going in with a plan (βa documentary look at a marathonβ) and coming back with two SD cards of crap images, I can’t help wondering if photography β¦
I took a picture.
I wrote a thing substack.com/home/post…
So much for exporting Instagram data in JSON format. It just doesn’t work. Now I’m left with this 600mb archive full of WEBP files that are about as useful for what I want to do as a chocolate fireguard. Why can’t things just work as it’s supposed to {shakes fists at clouds} β¦
Just discovered Pixelfed. Let’s see if that’s a decent alternative to Instagram. Anyone on here use it? I see you can link micro.blog up to Pixelfed.
An extraordinarily boring day. My wife is sick with the flue and in bed, and the kids are home but stuck in their rooms. Alone in a full house. Might go for a walk and listen to the football on the wireless.
Routine Moments - Phil Garner Has A Chance To Win The Game, Then Doesnβt: In which we feature a player just going about their business, because we often concentrate on the spectacular and forget the little details. This week we take you back to 1976 to tell you the story of how Phil Garner almost won a game for the Aβs The worn-out clichΓ© tells us that baseball is a game β¦
Routine Moments - Mick Luckhurst Runs Out Of Luck: In which we feature a player just going about their business, because we often concentrate on the spectacular and forget the little details. This week we take you back to the end of December 1987 to tell you the story of Mick Luckhurst, one of the few British-born players who made it in the NFL β¦ β¦
Watching the Netflix documentary about the Yorkshire Ripper. Mid-70’s Britain looked so miserable (or they only filmed stock footage in the rain in January) but for anyone who lived through that time, and that place, was it really that miserable? Was there no colour, or was everything just β¦
I know Joni Mitchell is a legend and all that, but ‘Woodstock’ is a hard listen.
2024
With everyone out, or at work, or asleep I went out for a short walk around the polder behind the house. I didn’t bother taking the camera, instead relying on the mobile phone. Listening to The Photowalk, a brilliant podcast about, well, photography…
Bloody hell, Aberdeenβ½οΈlose again, this time to Dundee United. After a bright start we’ve not won a game since the start of november. We’re slipping down the table. Celtic first, Rangers second. Natural order has been restored in Scottish football.
The 2024 Top 50 | #50 - Better Together (Jack Johnson): Not altogether sure why this is on the list, I donβt even like it that much but anyway, here it is. I suspect itβs the first track on a playlist somewhere that I start but then change my mind about which would explain its appearance (albeit in a lowly position) on this list. Here is a video of Jack β¦
That’s the last of the food shopping done. I say last, but I’m already doubting if the 10kg’s of potatoes are enough. Ach, I’ll send the kids out for more later. I managed to clear out a load of gone-off vegetables (possibly from last Xmas) to make room for the turkey. Time β¦
Bought Medieval Horizons by Ian Mortimer today with a gift voucher from two years ago that I found in the drawers when I was cleaning out the office before my holidays. π
Having completed Yellowstone - that ending was rubbish, by the way - we’re started on Killing Eve. So far so good (we’re on Season 1, Episode 4) and it’s entertaining enough but not quite sure how they’re going to pull four seasons out of this. πΊ
Today, I have mostly been listening π΅ to **Slowdive ** and The House of Love. Yeah, it’s been one of those days
Having said that, there seems to be some sort of mystical synergy between Man U and Aberdeen. Generally, when we lose, United lose. When we win, United win. Aberdeen lost 3-1 at home to Hibs yesteday. I should have known… β½οΈ
Ye gods, that was a shocking performance from Manchester Unitedβ½οΈNot saying Bournemouth are an easy team to beat, but losing 3-0 at home is just embarrasing.
Still trying out this micro blog thing, and photos in particular. Any good photography-themed people to follow out there? I’m on Insta and have my own blog (check out the ‘About’ page for details. Or not, also possible π). This was in Galway a few years back. Likes the blue, so .. β¦
Up early this morning. I don’t do lie ins - any longer than about six hours in bed and my back is destroyed. So, up early with the birds. Coffee on, radio on, heating on, time for breakfast. While I wait I’m continuing my trawl through Lightroom in an effort to put some order into it β¦
I’m getting pelters of my family for my Xmas Playlist (which I’ve been working on since July) because it features Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime about six times throughout. They just cannot accept that it’s the greatest Christmas tune of all time. Period.
Hi, me again. I’ve been trying to figure out why there’s a full stop appearing in front of a sentence in the about page. I’m checking, double checking the post to see what the problem is, only to find out it’s a spec of dirt on the screen.
The wheels are coming off the Jimmy Thelin wagon at Aberdeen. A bad 3-1 loss to Hibs at Pittodrie sees us drop back to third place, behind Rangers. For anyone not familiar with Scottish football, the natural order of things has been restored …
Ignore this, I’m just experimenting with photo uploads. This one was taken at Downpatrick Head in Co. Mayo, Ireland.
In the beginning ... : As part of my New Year’s resolution, I wanted to start blogging again. So, 2025 is the year to start doing it. Mind you, I said this in 2021 as well, and in 2022, and probably in 2023 also, but this time around I’m really going to give it a good go. Now to find some people to β¦
